Abstract

A triquiníase é endémica entre os mamíferos selvagens em Itália, embora cause poucas infestações no homem geralmente devidas ao consumo de carne de porcos apascentados em regiões selvagens ou de javalis (1). Em Itália, a maior parte dos casos de triquiníase humana são devidos ao consumo de carne de cavalo (902 casos em quatro surtos de 1975 a 1990)(2). A 22 de Janeiro de 1998, foram importados 27 cavalos da Polónia para serem abatidos no matadouro duma empresa privada em Brescia, no norte de Itália.
