Open Access Week is a global annual event held for the 6th time in 2012 between 22 and 28 October. Its main purposes are to promote awareness of the international open access movement and to give an opportunity to the academic and research community to share knowledge and information about the benefits of open access.
More information on the Open Access Week is available on the special website dedicated to the event at the following link: http://www.openaccessweek.org/
Open Access is about sharing research freely and openly and thus removes obstacles to free access to research such as the cost of journal subscriptions, or other access fees. Eurosurveillance is an open access journal devoted to the epidemiology, surveillance, prevention and control of communicable diseases, free of charge for both authors and readers since 1996.
